In my previous post, I had as tailpiece linked to a cinematography masterclass by Santosh Sivan — only, I inadvertently typed the name of his late brother Sangeet Sivan through the segment.
Apologies to all readers, and heartfelt thanks to one of the best editors I know for quickly writing in and taking me to task. The post has been corrected on the site. (I know how the error occurred, now, but that ship sailed so I’ll let it slide.)
(I’m sending this out because I just realised that corrections made to a public post don’t reach subscribers.)
A political poser: How do you cut a regional leader down to size? Simple — by removing him from his area of influence and giving him a nothing role in a Council of Ministers where two people make all decisions that matter while the rest are reduced to rubber stamps.
There is only one tall regional leader left in the BJP, and Mr Masterstroke had this brilliant idea of installing him, by acclaim, as the party president — as effective a way of neutering a potential rival as any. Only, the person in question has strong bridges to Nagpur — strong enough for the sarsangchalak to exert himself on the leader’s behalf.
PS: Does the above sound like one of those gossip columns in mainstream media — the type that is all hints and innuendo? I’ve written some of them back in the day, and edited others, and bad habits die hard they say, so…
But seriously, that is about all there is to be said at this point. Updates on those moves, as and when.
Stay safe, be well.
Prem - Sorry, but not able to figure out who you are referring to with "tall regional leader left...". Is that Mr. Gadkari -- and if so, is the plan to install him as a party president.
Always feel there may be some connection with his removal from the post back in 2012-13 timeframe and the top duo who were Gujarat-based then.
